Stokes sets school record

UConn signee Kiah Stokes set a Linn-Mar High single-game record with 39 points in Tuesday's 73-36 win over Cedar Rapids Jefferson. The most impressive part of her record day is that she did it while sitting out most of the fourth quarter.

Stokes was 19 of 24 from the field to break a record that was set back in 1989. She also had nine rebounds and four blocked shots to lead Linn-Mar to its 31st straight victory.

Kiah Stokes obviously has no control over the quality of her opponents that are on her team's schedule.

But hopefully Kiah will play the majority of games against teams that she cannot outscore.

As we have witnessed with Heather Buck and Stefanie Dolson, some high school stars rack up All-State and All-American numbers, but they are unprepared for NCAA Top 25 basketball.

Some high school stars just have to get into shape on their own, work on all aspects of their game on their own, and also play on premiere travel club teams to find quality opponents.

It took Tina Charles at least 2 full seasons at UConn to realize her potential.

So i must be patient with Stefanie Dolson and Heather Buck, while hoping for the best.
