Report: Taurasi's second test comes back positive

ESPN, citing a Turkish television report, is claiming that Diana Taurasi's 'B' sample came back testing positive for a banned substance. It should be noted that the Turkish federation which administered the test (Taurasi was playing professionally for the Turkish squad Fenerbahce) has not confirmed the report and that not sources were cited by the television station.

Taurasi 'A' sample tested positive for stimulant modafinil, which was placed on the list of banned substances by the World Anti-Doping Agency a week and a half before the start of the 2004 Summer Olympics.

One interesting aspect of the report is that Taurasi's teammates have refused to agree to doping tests because they don't trust the accuracy of the lab performing the tests.

Taurasi has been suspended from Fenerbahce. The WNBA and USA Basketball have not released any statements on the impact of Taurasi's eligibility if the second sample indeed comes back positive. Taurasi, through her attorney, has maintained her innocence and even if the second test is positive, she does have the right to due process. However, her participation in the 2012 Olympics could be very much in jeaopardy if the test results are not overturned.
