Report: Mosqueda-Lewis is Parade's player of the year
The Parade Magazine's girls' high school All-American team will appear in Sunday's magazine and according to a Tampa Tribune blog entry, UConn signee Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis has been named the player of the year.
Various reports are circulating mentioning players who made the team including one revealing that UConn incoming freshman Kiah Stokes is one of the 40 players on the team.
Staying on the subject of UConn and recruiting, I spoke with the AAU coach of UConn recruiting target Xylina McDaniel today to get a sense of when a college decision could be coming. Roger Wiley said he and Anne Long, McDaniel's high school coach, are planning to sit down with Xylina and her family in the next week or two to discuss the recruiting process. Wiley made it clear that her decision will be a family decision and her coaches both at the AAU and high school level will serve as advisors and sounding boards.
McDaniel will be busy in July as her South Carolina 76ers team will be playing in the Disney Showcase in Orlando, Fla. from July 8-10, from July 22-25 the 76ers will be taking part in the U.S. Junior Nationals/Nike National Championships and then will head to Louisville for the FILA Juniors from July 27-30. The next event for the team will be the Nike Midwest Showdown in Cincinnati from May 28-30.

Is it possible to tie in stories about USA Basketball, UConn Women's Basketball Recruiting, ESPN's HoopGurlz Rankings, and All-American teams from Parade Magazine, MaxPreps, and USA Today?
If you examine the All American teams from the 3 media sources, you will notice some obvious choices such as Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Elizabeth Williams. But you will also notice some big differences in voting opinions. Here are just a few.
Breanna Stewart (HoopGurlz #1) is on MaxPreps 1st team but not on USA Today’s 3 teams. I have yet to read an internet report stating that Stewart is on this season’s 40 player Parade Magazine team. Stewart was on the 4th team last season.
Morgan Tuck (HoopGurlz #12) is on the USA Today and MaxPrep teams. Jewell Loyd (HoopGurlz #4) is not on either. I have yet to read an internet report stating that Tuck or Loyd is on the 40 player Parade Magazine team.
Kiah Stokes (HoopGurlz #42) is not on the USA Today team but is on the MaxPreps and Parade Magazine teams.
Amber Henson (HoopGurlz #20) is on the USA Today 2nd team and Parade Magazine 3rd team but she was not on MaxPreps 4 teams.

To put high school player rankings and high school All-American teams in perspective, think about this. Courtney Vandersloot is at USA Basketball camp right now. She is the first and only NCAA basketball player, women or men, with 2000+ points and 1000+ assists. Courtney Vandersloot was the 35th ranked guard and 64th ranked overall player in 2007 HoopGurlz.

It is great that fans on BoneYard get excited and predict UConn win streaks and national championships. KML, Stokes, and Brianna Banks arrive in 2011. Tuck, Breanna Stewart and Moriah Jefferson arrive in 2012. These young women have not yet practiced for UConn, let alone played against Stanford, Baylor, Tennessee, Duke, Notre Dame, Rutgers, Texas A&M, etc. It is usually impossible to accurately predict de-commits, transfers, season ending injuries, intangibles, PPG, RPG, APG, TO, and MPG. Except with Maya Moore, who lived up to all her hype coming out of high school. I hope all these recruits have successful injury free 4 year careers in a Husky uniform, if each decides that UConn is indeed the best place for them.
