Springfield game fast approaching

UConn fans from the area can head up to Springfield on Friday to check out top recruit Breanna Stewart and as an added bonus, those who live in the Philadelphia region can see her play down there on Sunday.

First things first. Stewart's Cicero-North Syracuse team will face West Springfield High on Friday at 6 p.m. on day two of the HoopHall Classic. That will be followed by East Longmeadow (Mass.) High facing perennial New York power Christ the King, a team that features a talented sophomore named Sierra Calhoun who is on UConn's recruiting radar.

The event is being held at Springfield College's Blake Arena and if you need directions, here you go

If I were you, I'd call (413) 781-6500 to make sure there are tickets available.

The five-day event begins on Thursday with four boys' games. It's historically a star-studded boys' tournament which the latest highly-touted UConn commit (Tina Charles, Elena Delle Donne, Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis) being a showcase of the one day that girls' games are played. West Springfield is led by Boston University signee in Dana Theobald.

The game will be a homecoming for Stewart's high school coach as Eric Smith was a 1996 graduate of Springfield College according to a story on the http://www.masslive.com/ site. Speaking of Smith, he provided me with Stewart's updated stats. She is averaging 20 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals and 5 blocks per game. CPTV will be filming the game which will be aired on CPTV Sports Network.

Smith also filled me in on the details on Cicero-North Syracuse's game on Sunday as they play Hill School out of Pottstown, Pa. at Upper Dublin High School at 1 p.m. as part of the Blue Star Invitational.  In the latest USA Today national rankings Riverdale Baptist is second and Cicero-North Syracuse comes in at No. 7.
