Leedham, Great Britain fall to Brazil
Former Cheshire Academy star Johannah Leedham had 12 points and six rebounds but it wasn't enough to lead Great Britain to its first Olympic win.
Brazil defeated Great Britain 78-66 in the final game of the preliminary round behind 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists by the Atlanta Dream's Erika de Souza.
Both teams had been eliminated from contention for the knockout stage and it was a showdown between teams looking for their first win in the tournament.
Leedham, a third-round pick of the Connecticut Sun in 2010's WNBA draft, finished tied with de Souza as the second-leading scorer in the pool play stage of the Olympics. Leedham averaged 16.2 in the five games trailing only China's Nan Chen's 17.6 points per game average and was third with an average of 2.4 steals per game.
Leedham scored in double figures in each of the five games highlighted by a 29-point effort in a near upset of France. She also averaged 5.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists in the five games.
