Notre Dame takes care of business

Notre Dame did its part in setting up the much-anticipated rematch with UConn in the Big East tournament final, beating Louisville 83-59 win an impressive offensive showing.

UConn's about five minutes away from meeting Syracuse in tomorrow's title game.

There have been some classic UConn/Notre Dame games in recent years but few can top the triple-overtime thriller in South Bend a week ago.

Before the tournament began Big East Associate Commissioner Danielle Donehew tried to put into words what this UConn/Notre Dame has become.

"The Connecticut/Notre Dame series, rivalry and matchup is tremendous for the Big East Conference but even more importantly, it is tremendous for the game of women's basketball," Donehew said. "The battle on the court any time those teams play it is special, it is special for the people watching, it is special for the people involved, it is memorable for all of us. The last game that they played on Mar. 4 to conclude this regular, I was there and to go into three overtimes and one team would have a great run and the other team would counter and come right back. It was such a great battle and it was so fun and electric. I think it is great for our league and great for our game. We need more games like this for women's basketball, we have to do our part to build up more teams and build up more opportunities for these great matchups to happen so that they can be broadcast not only n a community but across the nation. It is special and over the years it has continued to be fun to watch, fun to be a part of. Last Monday, that might have been one of the best games it definitely in my top 3-5 of my whole life. It was remarkable, it was memorable, it was epic."
