UConn's opening opponent is ...

to be determined.

Some years predicting which time has the misfortune of being sent to the Nutmeg State to face UConn in the opening round isn't too hard to figure out. All it takes is one Cinderella team to emerge from one of the mid-major conferences in the East.

However, with Marist winning the MAAC once again, Albany having a dominant run through the America East and Quinnipiac 40 minutes away from doing the same in the Northeast Conference, things could be tougher to predict if the Bobcats take care of business later today.

ESPN Bracketologist Charlie Creme has Navy being sent to Storrs at the No. 16 seed and I could definitely see that even if the Midshipmen are making their third straight NCAA tournament appearance.

If Quinnipiac win the NEC, I would say that the teams in the running to be UConn's first-round foe are led by Navy, Hampton and Tennessee-Martin. However, if St. Francis (Pa.) pulls off the upset, the Red Flash would move to the top of the list.

St. Francis finished in a three-way tie for fourth place in the NEC and it would make sense geographically as well as RPI wise. It would also mark the third time St. Francis got sent to Gampel to face the Huskies back in 1999 and 2002.
