UConn's Nurse, Canada fall to Australia in quarterfinals

UConn incoming freshman Kia Nurse finished with eight points and two rebounds as Canada fell to Australia 63-52 in the quarterfinals at the FIBA World Championship for Women.

Nurse's first basket gave Canada the early 4-2 lead but a veteran Australian backcourt began to dominate as former Connecticut Sun guard Erin Phillips had 16 points and Leilani Mitchell added 10 points to lead Australia into Saturday's semifinals.

Canada has been eliminated from the championship bracket and will play the loser of the France/U.S. game in the classification portion of the tournament.

Nurse, Canada's youngest player, is tied for fourth on the team with 33 points in the first five games and perhaps even more impressive is that she has committed just two turnovers in 109 minutes in the tournament.
