UConn recruiting target steals show at 3x3 tourney

UConn Class of 2017 recruiting target Megan Walker was named the MVP as she led her Takeover squad to the 2016 USA Basketball 3x3 U18 national title.

"At the last second, we were kind of slow and I knew we had to score, so I took it upon myself to get us going," said Walker, a 6-foot-1 junior at Monacan High School in Chesterfield, Va. who recently took a visit to UConn and has the Huskies in her list of finalists along with Notre Dame, Virginia and Texas.

Cal incoming freshman Jaelyn Brown, uncommitted Class of 2017 prospect Sidney Cooks and TCU signee Amber Ramirez joined Walker on the Takeover team which went 8-0 in the tournament and will represent the U.S. at the 2016 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Championship, which will be played June 1-5 in Astana, Kazakhstan.

"It means a lot for me," Walker said. "It's always been a dream of mine to represent USA Basketball, and now it's finally coming true.

"There was about three minutes left, and we all just kind of looked at each other like, 'It's go time.' We wanted to win this tournament, and we wanted to travel to Kazakhstan."
