Softball community mourns death of Milford's Danni Kemp

Some stories transcend the sport that the athlete played and this one is most certainly the case.

Former Foran High softball player Danni Kemp passed away earlier today after her battle with cancer and the reactions are coming in at a fast and furious pace on social media.

Kemp played in 28 games last season as a freshman at Stony Brook as she had four doubles and three stolen bases.

The Stony Brook softball program has been at the forefront of publicizing Kemp's valiant battle and they offered their condolences after the news broke of Kemp's death.

"Danni was a beautiful soul who had her entire life in front of her," Shawn Heilbron, Stony Brook Director of Athletics said in a statement. "I am devastated beyond words and heartbroken for her family and everyone who loved her. Her valiant fight over the past several months was an inspiration to all of us, and her impact on the Stony Brook Athletics family will be felt for many years to come."

Stony Brook softball coach Megan Bryant offered the following words, "our hearts are heavy today and our love goes out to Danni and her family. In all too short of a young life, Danni touched so many in a beautiful way. She fought so hard against this terrible disease, and showed us what true courage is. May Danni only know peace now."

Kemp was a part of the Milford Little League team that won the 2011 New England title with Kemp delivering four hits in the New England championship game. The core of that team led Foran to back to back appearances in the CIAC Class L title games in 2012 and 2013.

Nearly 2,500 people have joined the "Danni Kemp Cancer Support Group" Facebook page

Reaction to Kemp's passing have very little with her ability to swing a bat or run the bases.
