UConn's Kia Nurse earns Academic All-American honors

UConn junior guard Kia Nurse was named a third team Academic All-American.

Nurse averages 12.8 points per game, leads the team with a free-throw percentage of 85.7, is second on the team with 49 3-pointers and third with 104 assists. The Hamilton, Ontario native carries a 3.44 grade-point average as a liberal arts & sciences major.

She is the eighth Husky to earn CoSIDA Academic All-American honors and first since Breanna Stewart was a second-team selection during the 2014-15 season. Nurse has a chance to join Maya Moore (a three-time first team All-American), Jen Rizzotti, Rebecca Lobo and Leigh Curl as UConn players with more than one Academic All-American honor. Wendy Davis and Ann Strother also earned Academic All-American recognition.

Nurse missed the final four games of the regular season due to a stress reaction in her right ankle. We should learn more about her availability for Saturday's American Athletic Conference quarterfinal game tomorrow when the conference's major awards are announced at a press conference at Mohegan Sun Arena.
