UConn's Kia Nurse headlines Canada's team for FIBA AmeriCup

UConn's Kia Nurse is one of six 2016 Olympians selected to play for defending champion Canada at next month's FIBA Women's AmeriCup in Argentina.

Nurse is one of three players with remaining NCAA eligibility on the team joining Michigan State's Shay Colley and Bridget Carleton of Iowa State.

Canada opens defense of its title on Aug. 6 against Cuba in a rematch of the 2015 championship game.

Nurse was the tournament's third-leading scorer averaging a team-leading 13 points per game as Canada went 6-0 in the event.

Nurse is joined by Olympians Miranda Ayim (10.7 PPG in the 2015 event), point guard Miah-Marie Langlois, Canada's leader with 37 assists and nine steals in '15, Nirra Fields, Katherine Plouffe and Michelle Plouffe. Laura Dally, Ruth Hamblin, Sami Hill and Jami Scott join Colley and Carleton as newcomers on the squad.
