UConn's Crystal Dangerfield had six points, seven rebounds and six assists as the United States defeated Puerto Rico 104-46 to advance to the FIBA U19 World Cup quarterfinals.
Dangerfield left the game early in the fourth quarter after appearing to injure her ankle after attempting a jumper. The U.S. has a day off before facing France in the quarterfinals giving Dangerfield time to recover. Dangerfield will continue to get treatment on her ankle and no decision has been made on her availability for the remainder of the tournament.
UConn incoming freshman Megan Walker had nine points, three rebounds and four assists while UConn Class of 2018 recruiting target Christyn Williams had 11 points and five rebounds.
"It was fun," Williams said on an interview posted on the USA Basketball site. "It was definitely a confidence booster for us going into the quarterfinals, so that was really good for us. We had a lot of fun.
"Everybody getting to play, everybody scoring and getting themselves on the stat sheet, that is so much fun."
Oregon's Ruthy Hebard had 21 points and nine rebounds including five of her team's 38 offensive rebounds. Joyner Holmes had 13 points and 11 rebounds including nine offensive rebounds. Alecia Sutton had 12 points, Bella Alarie had nine points and 11 rebounds, Tyasha Harris set the U.S. U19 single-game record with 10 assists. Dangerfield had tied the mark set by Ariel Massengale in 2011 with nine assists in Tuesday's win over Italy. The U.S. set a team U19 record with 72 rebounds.
Former Capital Prep star Angelique Rodriguez had 13 points for Puerto Rico. She finished the tournament averaging 16 points and had 13 3-pointers in four games.
