Baylor the new No. 1

UConn's record run at the top of the Associated Press poll ended when Baylor became the new No. 1.

UConn had been ranked first for an unprecedented 51 weeks in a row beginning in mid February of 2008. But following UConn's loss at Stanford, Baylor moved into the No. 1 spot. UConn falls to No. 2 followed by Duke, Tennessee and Stanford.

For the sake of full disclosure, I am one of the voters in the poll and with the exception of Stanford and Tennessee being flipped on the basis of Tennessee beating Stanford head to head, the top of the poll reflects how I voted.

wow, that is pretty generous voting, usually a loss drops a team below the unbeatens....

I'm a big UConn fan and supporter, however I do think # 2 is a bit high at this point....let them fall to # 6 or so and then work their way back up!

The issue is that Tennessee and Stanford have losses to Georgetown and DePaul. You could argue that Duke could move up to two with wins over Texas A&M and Xavier but UConn owns a win over the current No. 1 team in Baylor and Duke performances against teams like Charlotte, Wisconsin and Temple were merely OK so UConn being ranked second sounds about right to me.
