I watched the McDonald's All-American game last season.
What I noticed about Stefanie Dolson: Out of Shape, Unable to Jump, Very Good Passer, and Very Good Hands.
What I noticed about Samarie Walker: More of an Athlete than a basketball player. No offensive game outside the lane.
Stefanie Dolson arrived on campus Knowingly Out of UConn Shape. KLM is Not in UConn Shape as expected and Coach Auriemma knows this.
It is up to Every Recruit every season to Get Themselves into the Best Shape prior to Summer Basketball at UConn. It would make their Transition easier.
Discussion board at ESPN.com listed these UConn players as McDonald's All-Americans:
Crockett, Willnett 2002
Strother, Ann 2002 (POY)
Turner, Barbara 2002
Wolff, Nicole 2002
Hunter, Brittany 2003
Houston, Charde 2004
Thomas, Mel 2004
Montgomery, Renee 2005
Charles, Tina 2006 (POY)
McLaren, Kaili 2006
Dixon, Lorin 2007
Moore, Maya 2007 (POY)
Hayes, Tiffany 2008
Faris, Kelly 2009
Dolson, Stefanie 2010
Hartley, Bria 2010
Moore and Charles were NCAA POY and All-Americans. Montgomery was also an NCAA All-American. Crockett, Turner, Strother, and Wolfe were on 2 NCAA championship teams at UConn because Diana Taurasi carried them on her back.
Hunter's career was Unfortunately affected by Injuries. McLaren never got herself into UConn shape. She was a Great Passer who could have enjoyed more personal success. Houston was the Endless Enigma.
It is Great that UConn's 3 incoming Recruits were Honored and Earned roster spots in the McDonald's All-American game. Be Fair with your expectations of KLM, Banks, and Stokes, as well as Stewart, Tuck, and other future UConn Huskies.
Husky fans are well aware that Transfers happen every year in WCBB and there is No guarantee that UConn will be Right for KLM, Banks, Stokes, Stewart, Tuck, etc. It takes time to adjust from HS basketball to Top 5 D1 NCAA basketball.
Dolson has shown improvement. Lauren Engeln and Michala Johnson have Not improved enough for Coach Auriemma and therefore Sit on the Bench. Engeln, Johnson, and Buck probably will Sit on the UConn bench next season, with 3 incoming Recruits plus hopefully an injury free Caroline Doty.
Good Luck to UConn recruits! Go Huskies!
