UConn recruit hits game-winning shot

UConn signee Kiah Stokes' layup with 21 seconds remaining lifted Linn-Mar High of Marion, Iowa to a 48-47 win over Ankeny in the Iowa 4A quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Stokes finished with 18 points (on 8 of 18 shooting), 11 rebounds, four assists and two blocks. UConn coach Geno Auriemma was among those in the stands for the game.

Linn-Mar will play Iowa City West in Friday's semifinals.

MOSQUEDA-LEWIS A WOOTTEN AWARD FINALIST
Stokes' future UConn teammate Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis was one of four players named as a finalist for the Morgan Wootten National High School Player of the Year.

The 6-foot wing from Anaheim, Calif. joins Tennessee commits Cierra Burdick and Ariel Massengale and Duke bound Elizabeth Williams as the finalists for the McDonald's national player of year.


WNBA DRAFT AT ESPN
The WNBA draft has tried various locations including the NBA Entertainment Studios in New Jersey and for a while at the site of the Final Four. On Wednesday the league announced it would be held at ESPN in Bristol on April 11 beginning at 3 p.m.

Maya Moore is expected to be taken first overall by the Minnesota Lynx.

Tennessee will be SCARY great ON PAPER next season. The question is whether or not Pat Summitt can revitalize her coaching skills from the Chamique/Tamika/Semeka great teams or the one woman Candice Parker teams.
