Notre Dame ready for the challenge

With UConn playing West Virginia and Notre Dame facing Seton Hall on Wednesday night, there wasn't too much hype surrounding Saturday's clash of the Big East titans when Notre Dame hosts UConn on Saturday.

Notre Dame coach Muffet McGraw met with the local media and also had a phone hookup to take questions from the Connecticut media. She was almost matter of fact in answering questions about the magnitude of Saturday's nationally-televised game.

"We are anticipating that we will have a sellout crowd and it will be a great atmosphere for college basketball," McGraw said in her opening statement.

Here are some of the other highlights of what she had to say about the game.

"We've been drawing great crowds all year. I think the electricity will be up for this game because it is No. 2 vs. No. 3 and it is going to be such an exciting game for national TV.
"They are definitely the best team we have faced since Baylor and it is going to be a challenge for us. They do have a size advantage for Stefanie Dolson, just such a great player on the block. She is big, she is strong, she is physical, she is really difficult for us to guard. You (combine) that with all the 3-point shooters that they have, it makes them a really tough team to defend.

"I think they would rather play in a game like this than in a game where the starters only get to play half a game. When you are a player at this level and have a competitive part of you that wants to be great, you have to play really good teams in order to be good. That is what they are looking forward to - a challenge to a really exciting game."

It should be noted that in the latest NCAA stats Notre Dame is leading the country in scoring offense (85.9 points per game) while UConn is tops in scoring defense (41.4)
