Two former Huskies part of SNY announcing team
SNY announced its television schedule as well as the team of broadcasters who will call the 20 games and the studio hosts.
Former UConn stars Kara Wolters (studio analyst) and Meghan Culmo (color commentator) will be joined by play by play announcer Andrew Catalon, sideline reporter Kerith Burke and studio host Gary Apple.
SNY's game coverage will begin with the Nov. 11 game against the College of Charleston. Details on the live streaming package offered by SNY is expected to be announced next week. SNY will not be televising UConn's exhibition games against Indiana (Pa.) or Holy Family.
Among the games SNY will televise in the first season of a four-year deal as the regional broadcast partner of UConn women's basketball are games against Penn State on Dec. 6 and contests with perennial Big East powers Georgetown (Jan. 9), St. John's (Feb. 2) and Rutgers (Feb. 16).
“I am thrilled to join the SNY team in covering the UConn Women's Basketball program,” said Culmo in a statement. “We will provide exceptional coverage for the best women’s basketball fans in the nation. I cannot wait to get started working with Andrew, Kerith, Gary and Kara – great people who will work so hard to bring the best product to the air for our loyal fans.”
Culmo served in the same capacity when UConn games were televised by CPTV while Wolters moves to SNY after being the color commentator for UConn women's games on WTIC-1080.
“I’m delighted to be part of the amazing team at SNY, as they have assembled one of the best broadcast teams in the business,” Wolters said in the SNY release. “Their superior production capabilities will bring an unparalleled viewing experience to the fans. I am thrilled to know that a broad audience will have the opportunity to experience the championship caliber of the UConn women’s basketball program.”
SNY will televise every regular-season game not contracted to another media property. The only regular-season game which will not be available on television in Connecticut will be the Dec. 31 contest at Oregon as the Pac-12 Network has exclusive rights to the game. The last regular-season game not available in Connecticut was a Dec. 18, 2008 contest against Washington in the Caribbean Classic in Cancun.
After 18 years of UConn women's basketball being televised on CPTV, SNY was awarded the rights to the games.
UConn returns nine of its top 10 scorers of a team which won 33 games, won the Big East tournament title and advanced to the Final Four and brings in highly-touted freshmen Breanna Stewart, Moriah Jefferson and Morgan Tuck.
