Saniya Chong's letter is in

Ossining (N.Y.) senior guard Saniya Chong signed and faxed over her national letter of intent this morning making her an official member of the UConn women's basketball program according to Ossining HS coach Dan Ricci.

Chong will have a ceremony at Ossining High's gymnasium at 1:45 p.m. this afternoon where she will go through the ceremonial signing of the letter.

Once UConn receives all the letters from the committed players, Geno Auriemma will be able to comment on the class. Oh, that's right, Chong is the one and only member of the next freshman class so don't be shocked to see an official release coming from UConn at some point today.

We will get a chance to speak to Geno tomorrow before practice and something tells me the subject of Saniya Chong just may come up.

Chong, a 5-foot-9 guard, averaged 33.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, 9.7 assists, 5 steals and 1.4 blocks as a junior. She scored at least 20 points in all but one game and had four 40-point games. Her best scoring games as a junior were 55-point efforts against Archbishop Molloy and Irvington. She also had four triple-doubles. Chong enters her senior season with a school-record 2,060 points.

Chong is a terrific addition to the UConn group of greats. We fans are very impressed with Chongs abilities. It matters not she is the only recruit, up to this point, for the 2013/14 class. She too will earn a championship ring. Quality is more important than quantity. Thank you and Welcome MS Saniya Chong.
