UConn commits Collier, Dangerfield, Samuelson named Gatorade State Players of the Year
UConn incoming freshmen Napheesa Collier and Katie Lou Samuelson and Class of 2016 commit Crystal Dangerfield were among the players named the Gatorade State Players of the Year today.
Collier, a 6-foot-1 forward at Incarnate Word Academy in St. Louis, is averaging 26.4 points, 12.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 4 steals and 4 blocks a game as a senior.
Samuelson, a 6-foot-3 wing out of Mater Dei High in Santa Ana, Calif., is averaging 29.6 points per game and has more than 200 rebounds and 100 3-pointers as a senior.
Dangerfield, a 5-foot-6 guard, led Blackman to its second straight Tennessee AAA title as she was named the tournament MVP and Tennessee Miss Basketball in Class AAA after averaging 15.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 2.6 steals per game.
UConn Class of 2016 recruiting target Lauren Cox, a junior forward to Flower Mound, was named the player of year in Texas while Capital Prep star and Maryland signee Kiah Gillespie was named the winner in Connecticut.
