Hammond headed to Louisville

Sara Hammond announced at a press conference on Tuesday morning at Rockcastle County High in Mt. Vernon, Ky. that she was picking Louisville over Connecticut.

Hammond, a multi-faceted 6-foot-2 forward, had recently eliminated Western Kentucky and Vanderbilt from her list of schools and took a couple of days after returning home from her official visit to UConn to think things over before committing to Louisville which has had Hammond on their recruiting radar since she was a freshman in high school.

UConn began to make a push for Hammond over the summer when UConn coach Geno Auriemma offered her a scholarship after seeing her play in an AAU tournament. Louisville was always considered a frontrunner for Hammond but UConn made things interesting before she opted to stay in state.

UConn, which has commitments from guards Brianna Banks and Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, is still actively recruiting 6-foot-3 forward/center Kiah Stokes from Marion, Iowa and 6-0 guard/forward Betnijah Laney from Clayton, Del. Stokes is expected to make an official visit to UConn from Oct. 15-17 while Laney's list of official visits are not expected to be announced until she finishes up her home visits this weekend.

UConn's Recruiting Classes of 2010 and 2011 - Success or Failure? Let the Debate begin. :)

Geno Auriemma and Pat Summitt both have recruited All-World Players. Both head coaches have also had Disappointing Recruiting Classes.

Chamique Holdsclaw, Tamika Catchings, Diana Taurasi, Candace Parker, and Maya Moore are easily some of the Greatest WCBB Players of All Time.

Players with their Incredible Talent and Drive for Success are Not available in every Recruting Year. And players of their caliber are certainly Not available together in any one Recruiting Class.

True Measure of any Recruiting Class is Defined by the players Successes and Failures during their 4 Years of Eligibility. On and Off the basketball court.

Tina Charles was the National High School Player of the Year in 2006. Coach Auriemma was Publicly Disappointed in Tina's Performance during her First 2 Seasons. But we all know that Tina helped lead UConn to 78-0 and back-to-back NCAA titles.

I would consider UConn's 2006 Recruiting Class a huge success, despite the fact that Meghan Gardler, Kali McLaren, and Jacquie Fernandes were certainly Not even close to All Big East performers.

Charde Houston set the California high school Career Scoring Record. UConn fans know how Severely Disappointed in Charde's peformance that Coach Auriemma was from her 2004-5 season thru her 2007-8 season.

The rest of the 2004 UConn recruiting class was Ketia Swanier and Mel Thomas. I would Not consider UConn's 2004 Recruiting Class a huge success. Not when Compared to UConn's recruiting classes of 1998 (Bird, Cash, Williams, Jones), 2000 (Taurasi), 2006 (Charles), and 2007 (Moore).

UConn fans should Not expect Any of the 2010 Recruits or 2011 Recruits to be anywhere near as Great as Holdsclaw, Catchings, Taurasi, Parker, or Moore.

Expect the Worst and Hope for the Best during UConn's next 5 Seasons. More importantly, Support the Huskies regardless of their record.
