UConn teammates appreciate Mosqueda-Lewis' game
It was Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis offensive explosiveness which made her the no-brainer selection to become the 12th UConn player to be named either the Big East's Freshman or Rookie of the Year but those who see her in practice every day appreciate the other things Mosqueda-Lewis brings to the Huskies.
"She is a hard worker and she makes shots when she has to," said freshman forward/center Kiah Stokes. "She doesn't let the media or anybody get into her head. She keeps it cool and straight faced. She is a great teammate and I am proud of her to get that award, way to rep for our freshman class. Hopefully she will continue to grow and next year and she will be even better."
Mosqueda-Lewis was the Huskies' second-leading scorer during the regular season averaging 14.4 points per game and set a Connecticut freshman record by making 75 3-pointers but she also in fourth on the team in rebounding (5.3), steals (40) and blocked shots.
"Her coming in as a freshman and being freshman of the year is tremendous pressure on her and being our second leading scorer, you have to deal with the fact that every night we are going to look to you to score is a lot of pressure for a freshman," UConn sophomore center Stefanie Dolson said. "I respect the fact that she has taken all that pressure and thrived on it. She has done a great job this year of scoring for us, rebounding for us and doing all the little things and doing more than just what she is supposed to do."
