Huskies square off with physical Louisville team

Tonight begins a challenging stretch of games for UConn with No. 15 Louisville coming into the XL Center for a 9:10 p.m. tip. That will be followed by a home game with a Syracuse team close to breaking into the top 25 polls on Saturday at the XL Center and then No. 4 Duke comes into Gampel Pavilion on the 21st.

UConn coach Geno Auriemma is not concerned with the other two opponents right now as Louisville has his attention.

"They are a very difficult matchup, a difficult matchup for anybody," Auriemma said. "They've got a pretty good combination of good kids on the perimeter and they are very tough around the basket, they are as aggressive as hell. It is not an easy 'we can take this away from them' because they do a lot of things well. When you have a kid like Shoni Schimmel on the team, you aren't really sure what to do with that because she might take 5 3's tonight and go 15 for 25 or might go 3 for 30 but you know you have to guard all 30 of them because you aren't quite sure when that run comes. Then Monique Reid, the last I checked, she was coming off the bench, when you have a player like that, she is a tough matchup for anybody so I think they are one of the more difficult teams to matchup with in or league no question about it. They are solid defensively, generally speaking they are a team you have to beat, some teams go out and they aren't tough enough or smart enough but Louisville, you have to beat them."
