Sun hire Anne Donovan

The Connecticut Sun turned to a familiar name in WNBA circles to fill its head coaching vacancy with the hiring of Anne Donovan.

Donovan has had four WNBA head coaching stints beginning in 2000 with the Indiana Fever. She coached the Charlotte Sting in 2001 and 2002 before taking over in Seattle from 2003-07. She coached the New York Liberty from 2009-2010 before leaving to become the head coach at Seton Hall. She won the WNBA title in 2004 with Seattle and has a 167-150 career WNBA coaching record.

Donovan was also the head coach of the United States team which won the gold medal at the 2008 Olympics. One of her assistant coaches was former Connecticut Sun coach Mike Thibault.

Thibault was the only coach the franchise has had since relocating to Connecticut from Orlando but he was let go after 10 seasons citing a need for the Sun needing a new voice to lead it to its first WNBA title.

The Su return a talented nucleus led by reigning WNBA MVP Tina Charles as well as double-digit scorers Kara Lawson, Asjha Jones and Renee Montgomery.
