UConn commit to play in WBCA All-American Game
UConn incoming freshman Saniya Chong was one of 20 players selected to play in the WBCA High School All-American Game.
Chong, a 5-foot-9 guard from Ossining, N.Y., is averaging 35..3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 9.6 assists, 4.3 steals and 1.9 blocked shots to lead Ossining to a 12-4 record including a 9-0 mark against New York squads.
Chong has scored at least 22 points in every game this season with a high of 51 against Irvington (N.Y.). Chong is the ninth all-time leading scorer in New York girls' basketball history with 2,624 points and needs 39 points to pass Karen O'Connor for the eighth spot as well as the No. 1 position for a Section I player.
Chong has a chance to move by O'Connor on Wednesday when Ossining plays Blind Brook in the final regular-season home game of Chong's career. Ossining wraps up the regular season with a game against Irvington on Friday.
The WBCA High School All-American Game will be played on Apr. 6 at 5:30 p.m. at the New Orleans Arena. Here is a list of rhe players selected to take part in the game.
