Chong leads Ossining to playoff win

UConn signee Saniya Chong had 31 points, five rebounds, nine assists and five steals to lead her Ossining (N.Y.) team to a 69-45 win over Horseheads 69-49 in the Class AA state title on Tuesday.

She had her 800th point of the season in the game giving her three of the top five single-season scoring marks in New York history. Caryn Schoff scored a record 892 points for St. Johnsville during the 1994-95 season, Chong had 812 points as a sophomore, Stefanie Collins scored 811 points at Odessa-Montour in 2000-01 then Chong's current total oh 800 and the 799 she had as a junior round out the list.

Ossining will play Monroe-Woodbury on Sunday at 2:45 p.m. in West Point, N.Y. in the Class AA quarterfinals.

Chong now has 2,860 career points. She needs 12 to move by former University of Virginia star Tammi Reiss to become the fifth all-time leading scorer in New York high school girls' basketball history and with 36 points she would take over the No. 4 spot currently held by ex-Syracuse star Beth Record.
