Hartley, Mosqueda-Lewis star in World University Games opener

UConn's Bria Hartley had a game-high 17 points (going 7 for 7 from the field including 3 for 3 from 3-point range) to go with five assists and three steals and her UConn teammate Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis had 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals as the United States opened play in the World University Games with a 120-32 win over Mali.

Cassie Harberts (USC) had 14 points, Shoni Schimmel of Louisville and Duke's Tricia Liston had 13 points each with Schimmel adding nine assists while Oklahoma's Aaryn Ellenberg added 11 points for the U.S.

Here are some quotes from Hartley courtesy of the folks at USA Basketball.

What was the team able to do to be so successful?I think getting some steals and pushing in transition helped us. We were able to push the ball up the court. Shoni had some awesome passes. Odyssey had some awesome passes. We really shared the ball well.

On her shooting performance:
I don't really know why I was so hot. Warming up, I was thinking, 'I like this gym,' and I was hitting shots. My teammates were able to find me, Shoni and Odyssey, and I was just able to knock down shots.

How did if feel to open play in the World University Games?
Definitely. We were all eager to play, and get into it, and kind of sick of practice a little bit, so it was good to get out and play. We had a lot of fun.

Thanks Jim I was needing a WBB fix. It's good that Uconn women are getting to play with Okla, Baylor, etc players. When they meet in the early fall they will know their idiosyncrasies.
Nice that KML and Hartley are doing well. Now tell us what Stew, Tuck, MoJo are doing and how Dolson is doing at SNY.

Thank you jim, this was just great!!!!7281
