UConn's non-conference schedule is announced

UConn announced its non-conference schedule while is highlighted by games against NCAA teams California, Maryland, Penn State, Duke, Stanford and Baylor.

With 13 non-conference games and 18 conference games, UConn could match the 2011-12 Baylor women's basketball team's record of playing in 40 games this season.

The Huskies open against Hartford on Nov. 9 and two days later host Stanford and national player of the year candidate Chiney Ogwumike. On Nov. 15 UConn will play at Maryland meaning the Huskies will likely face a pair of top 10 teams in the first three games of the season and with a game at Penn State on Nov. 17 there could be three top 10 matchups in the first four games of the 2013-14 season. A game at Duke on Dec. 17 in the Jimmy V Classic could be a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown

UConn will also play in the Hall of Fame Classic playing Boston University, Monmouth and St. Bonaventure from Nov. 22-24 before playing Ohio State on Dec. 1.

The Huskies will face Cal in the Maggie Dixon Classic in a showdown of 2013 Final Four teams on Dec. 22 at Madison Square Garden. The non-conference portion of the schedule wraps up with a game at Baylor, the 2012 national champions, on Jan. 13.

The sites of the UConn home games and start times will be announced at a later date.

The American Athletic Conference portion of the schedule which features home and away games against Central Florida, Cincinnati, Houston, Louisville, Memphis, Rutgers, Southern Methodist, South Florida and Temple could be announced either in late August or in early September.

UConn returns its top three and seven of its top eight scorers of a team which posted a 35-4 record and won the program's eighth national title.
