UConn trio named WBCA All-Americans

UConn women’s basketball players were named to the WBCA All-American team as senior center Stefanie Dolson, senior guard Bria Hartley and sophomore forward Breanna Stewart were named to the 10-player squad.

For just the third time in program history, three Huskies were named to the All-American team.

Dolson, who is a finalist for the WBCA Defensive Player of the Year and was named the Senior CLASS Award winner, is averaging a team-leading 9.2 rebounds a game, is UConn’s fourth-leading scorer averaging 12.4 points per game, is third on the team with 127 assists and second with 89 blocked shots. Dolson will set the NCAA Division I women’s basketball record when she starts in her 151st career game on Sunday against Stanford. Former Stanford star Kayla Pedersen held the record with 150 starts.

Hartley is averaging 16.3 points per game, has a team-leading 78 3-pointers, is second on the Huskies with 166 assists and second on the team with 66 steals. She needs to play 20 minutes to set UConn’s career record for minutes played and is 32 points shy of becoming the Huskies’ eighth 2,000-point scorer.

Stewart leads UConn in scoring (19.4 points per game) and with 106 blocked shots. She is the Huskies’ second-leading rebounder with an average of 8.1 per game and is one of four players with at least 100 assists.

The only other times UConn had three WBCA All-Americans, which is the criteria to induction into the Huskies of Honor program, came in 2008-09 when Tina Charles, Renee Montgomery and Maya Moore earned the honor and in 2001-02 when Sue Bird, Swin Cash and Diana Taurasi were selected to the team. UConn finished as undefeated national champions in both years, something the Huskies are attempting to do this season.
