UConn signees Naismith POY semifinalists

UConn incoming freshmen Napheesa Collier and Katie Lou Samuelson are among 10 semifinalists for the Naismith national player of the year award.

Collier is averaging 27.7 points. 11.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 3.3 steals and 3.7 blocks per game as she has led Incarnate Word Academy in St. Louis to 17 straight wins.

Samuelson is averaging 29.3 points with 12 30-point games and adding 8.1 rebounds per game.

UConn, Notre Dame (Ali Patberg and Marina Mabrey) and Texas (Lashann Higgs and Jordan Posey) lead the way with two recruits on the list. Louisville commit Asia Durr, Baylor incoming freshman Kalani Brown, Tennessee commit Te'a Cooper and Destinee Walker, who is headed to North Carolina are also up for the award.

UCONN NO. 1 IN COACHES POLL
It was a foregone conclusion that UConn would move to No. 1 when the Division I coaches poll came out today. The only question was whether the Huskies would be the unanimous No. 1 pick and they were. South Florida comes in at No. 25 so if that doesn't change, UConn will have at least one more game in the regular season against a ranked opponent.
