UConn trio on Naismith midseason watch list
UConn's Moriah Jefferson, Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Breanna Stewart are among 30 players named to the Naismith Midseason 30 list making them candidates for the prestigious national player of the year award.
Stewart is UConn's leading scorer with an average of 16.4 points per game to go with 6.6 rebounds. She is one of three Huskies with at least 70 assists, is second on the team with 53 blocked shots and has 40 steals.
Mosqueda-Lewis, who holds the single-season and career record for 3-pointers, is second on the 23-1 Huskies with an average of 14.4 points per game while Jefferson leads UConn with 110 assists and 57 steals while contributing 11.5 points per game.
UConn's Morgan Tuck New Haven's Bria Holmes, a junior guard at West Virginia and the second-leading scorer in the Big 12, and Iona senior guard Damika Martinez, a Meriden native who 24.1 scoring average ranks third nationally, are among the prominent players not to make the list.
