Montgomery a finalist

UConn senior guard Renee Montgomery has been named one of the 10 women's basketball finalists for the Senior CLASS Award which is presented annually to the top senior student-athlete. Montgomery is the only Big East player among the 10 women's basketball nominees.

Montgomery is UConn's second-leading scorer averaging 16.3 points per game and leads the Huskies with 122 assists, 53 3-pointers and 685 minutes played. Just for the heck of it, I did a little calculating, if Montgomery maintains her current pace and UConn reaches the Big East and NCAA tournament finals she would finish her career as UConn's leader with 150 games played and 649 assists (one ahead of Ashley Battle and Diana Taurasi respectively) and would rank sixth in points (1,982), fourth in 3-pointers (249) and five in steals (256). At her current pace, she would end up second with 96 3-pointers, third with 216 assists and seventh with 636 points on the Huskies' single-season charts.

Speaking of senior guards, Marquette's Krystal Ellis became the Golden Eagles' leading scorer, passing Abbie Willenborg's record of 1,818 which has stood for nine seasons. Ellis did the honors with 5:43 remaining in Tuesday's 71-56 win at South Florida.
