Another prestigious honor for Breanna Stewart

UConn incoming freshman Breanna Stewart was named the winner of the Morgan Wootten Player of the Year, the third major national high school player of the year honor the Cicero-North Syracuse (N.Y.) senior forward has received.

The award is given out by the committee which runs the McDonald's All-American game which Stewart will be playing in later this month. Stewart has already won the WBCA and Naismith national player of the year awards and is a leading candidate to earn the same nod from Gatorade.

Stewart is averaging 25.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.7 steals and 2.9 blocks per game. She has scored at least 20 points in her last 14 games and 18 times overall heading into Friday's New York AA semifinals where the Northstars will face Ossining High which is led by junior guard and UConn recruiting target Saniya Chong.

Moriah Jefferson and Morgan Tuck, who will be joining Stewart at UConn next season, were among the finalists for the award.
