UConn recruit Breanna Stewart named Naismith Player of the Year
UConn incoming freshman Breanna Stewart has been named the winner of the 2012 Naismth High School Player of the Year.
She is averaging 25.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.7 steals and 2.9 blocks and leads Cicero-North Syracuse (N.Y.) into the New York Class AA quarterfinals on Friday against Colonie High at Hudson Valley Community College.
She joins former UConn stars Tamika Williams, Diana Taurasi, Ann Strother, Maya Moore and current Husky Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis as winners of the award.

Also, the Naismith girls' national coach of the year is Curtis Ekmark of St. Mary's Catholic High in Phoenix whose daughter Courtney, a sophomore guard at St. Mary's, recently took an unofficial visit to UConn.
Back on the subject of Stewart, if I am reading the New York state tournament bracket correctly, if her team wins on Saturday and UConn recruiting target Saniya Chong's Ossining's team wins on Friday then they would square off in the semifinals on Mar. 16 at 8 p.m. at Hudson Valley Communirty College in Troy.
