Huge game for UConn recruiting target

A'ja Wilson, one of the UConn's top Class of 2014 recruiting targets, went off for 48 points to lead her Heathwood Hall Episcopal team to a 98-57 win over Hammond on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-5 Wilson was 22 of 27 from the field and would have surpassed the 50-point mark had she shot her free throws better. She also had 13 points, three assists, three steals and four blocked shots as Heathwood Hall out of Columbia, S.C. won its sixth straight game.

Wilson missed the first seven games of the season with a wrist injury but since she has returned, Wilson is averaging 29 points, 14.8 rebounds, 4 assists, 2.8 steals and 6.4 blocked shots. Heathwood Hall was 3-4 without Wilson and is 8-2 with her in the lineup.

UConn signee Saniya Chong and recruiting target Sierra Calhoun, a junior who recently scored her 1,000th career point, will each be playing in the Rose Classic in Brooklyn this weekend although they will be playing on different days.

Chong and Ossining (N.Y.) will play Norland out of Miami on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Calhoun's Christ the King squad will meet Archbishop Wood out of Warminster, Pa. at noon on Saturday. The tournament is being played at Bishop Ford High School.

Closer to home, Tennessee signee Mercedes Russell, considered by many to be the top high school senior player in the country, will be leading her Springfield (Ore.) squad against Braintree (Mass.) in one of two girls' games at the HoopHall Classic in Springfield College on Friday at 6 p.m.

At 6 5 wilson should get 50 points a game. Remember Buck got big scores in Stonington because she was taller then the competition. Don't think all bigs are another Steff Dolson or Tina Charles.
Uconn needs a big, a very very good big--is Wilson the one???
