Former UConn star Taurasi delivers again

Former UConn star Diana Taurasi knows something about winning EuroLeague titles, being a member of the powerhouse Spartak team which won four straight titles.

She is a step closer to another title as she had 20 points and seven rebounds to lead UMMC Ekaterinburg to an 86-75 win over Nadezhda and a sweep of the quarterfinal series.

Former Connecticut Sun forward Sandrine Gruda added 14 points as did Alba Torrens, a player the Sun is hoping will come over to make her WNBA debut this summer. When I was at Mohegan Sun Arena today for the press conference announcing the American Athletic Conference's major awards, I ran into Sun general manager Chris Sienko. He said Torrens has yet to tell the team of her intentions but they are hopeful that something can be worked out so she can play for the Sun this season.

Fellow former Husky Tina Charles had a double double with 14 points and 13 rebounds but it wasn't enough to allow her Fenerbahce squad to close out fellow Turkey squad Galatasaray. Galatasaray scored six straight points to take a 10-point lead midway through the fourth quarter.  Fenerbahce did scored the game's final eight points but it wasn't enough as Galatasaray posted a 59-57 victory to tie the best of three game series at 1-1. The final game will be played on Wednesday.
