UConn's Stewart, Auriemma and Nurse honored

For the fifth time in program history the UConn women's basketball team swept the conference Player of Year, Coach of Year and Freshman of Year awards.

Breanna Stewart joins Maya Moore, Diana Taurasi, Rebecca Lobo and Kerry Bascom as the only Huskies to win more than one conference player of the year award, Geno Auriemma was named the conference coach of the year for a 12tth time and when Kia Nurse was named the American Athletic Conference's Freshman of the Year it completed the first sweep of the three awards since 2010-11 season. The achievement was also accomplished during the 2007-08, 1996-97 and 1994-95 seasons while the Huskies were in the Big East.

It is the second straight year Stewart and Auriemma were named the AAC's top player and coach.

UConn will open defense of its AAC tournament title on Saturday at noon at Mohegan Sun Arena at 2 p.m. against either Cincinnati or Central Florida.
