Record performance for UConn incoming freshman

It won't be long before Katie Lou Samuelson will be taking aim at some of Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis' records at UConn.

However, before Samuelson arrives in Storrs she managed to break one of the most cherished individual records at California powerhouse Mater Dei High School.

Samuelson's 42 points in Friday's state playoff win over Palisades broke the single-game record of 41 which was first set by Mosqueda-Lewis, matched by current UCLA star Nirra Fields and again by Samuelson in a Dec. 18, 2014 game against Skyline High of Dallas.

Samuelson had just three 3-pointers in the game giving her 109 this season, seven shy of the Monarchs' single-season mark set by Mosqueda-Lewis during the 2010-11 season. I wrote "just three 3-pointers" because she had two games this season with 10 which broke the single-game Mater Dei mark set by Mosqueda-Lewis and matched her Samuelson's sister Karlie.
