Montgomery joins select company

UConn senior guard Renee Montgomery was named the winner of the Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award, presented annually to the best college senior basketball player standing 5-foot-8 or under.

Montgomery, who averages 16.6 points, a team-leading 5.2 assists and 78 3-pointers, joins an impressive list of previous winners including Kim Mulkey, Suzie McConnell, Jen Rizzotti, Becky Hammon, Niele Ivey, Helen Darling, Kara Lawson and last year's winner Jolene Anderson.

Montgomery will receive the award at the WBCA Awards Luncheon presented by State Farm and Jostens at 1 p.m. April 7, at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis Riverfront Grand Ballroom.
