UConn/Villanova ready to go

A couple of streaks are on the line today.

UConn hasn't lost back to back games since 1993, a run of 623 games. A win would be UConn's 70th straight at home, breaking the NCAA Division I women's record of 69 it shares with the 2000-04 UConn and 1991-96 Tennessee squads.

"I don't think there is one kid who any idea about what is going on other than Villanova's going to shoot 40 3's and if they make a couple right in my face, Coach is going to be really (upset)," UConn women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma said.

Harry Perretta, the dean of Big East women's basketball coaches, was in rare form stopping with the Connecticut newspaper reporters and poking fun at the Wildcats' offensive struggles. He joked that there's a 30 percent chance the Wildcats would be shut out and that his athletic director owed him a $1,000 bonus if Villanova hit 30 points.

On a more serious side, former Mercy High star Rachel Roberts is getting her third straight start and 10th of the season for the Wildcats. The sophomore from Marlborough is Villanova's No. 3 scorer.
