Auriemma, Moore, Hartley honored by Big East

UConn's Geno Auriemma, Maya Moore and Bria Hartley were named the Big East's Coach, Player and Freshman of the Year marking the fifth time in conference history that the three major individuals went to the same school.
Moore, averaged 23.4 points and 7.8 rebounds while leading UConn with 132 assists, 71 steals and 36 blocked shots, joins former UConn star Kerry Bascom and Villanova's Shelly Pennefather as the only three-time winners of the Big East's top individual award.
Auriemma was named the coach of the year for the fourth straight year and for the 10th time as helping UConn to its 19th Big East regular season title and ninth perfect run through the Big East regular season.

Hartley, who was third on the team with 12.7 points per game and had a team-high 60 3-pointers, is 11th UConn player to be named Big East Freshman/Rookie of the Year joining Moore, Tina Charles, Renee Montgomery, Tamika Williams, Shea Ralph, Nykesha Sales, Jen Rizzotti, Laura Lishness, Kris Lamb and Laura Lishness as Huskies to win the award.

St. John's was the first school to sweep the three awards as former Southern Connecticut State coach Don Perrelli were named coach of the year while his players Debbie Beckford and Ann Marie McNamee were named the top player and rookie. In 1995, Auriemma, Rebecca Lobo and Nykesha Sales swept the awards. Two years later Kara Wolters and Shea Ralph joined Auriemma as winners of the conference's top honors.

The last time it had happened before this year was in 2008 when Auriemma shared coach of the year honors with Syracuse's Quentin Hillsman while Moore was named both the player and freshman of the year.
