When UConn plays Louisville a week from tomorrow at the XL Center, the Mater Dei High School team will be in attendance.

Mater Dei, led by UConn signee Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, will be in New England to take part in the HoopHall Classic on Jan. 14 when the Monarchs play Murry Bergtraum at 6 p.m. at Springfield College.

Mosqueda-Lewis, a 6-foot senior wing, is averaging 22 points a game for 13-1 Mater Dei.

Interesting that there are no UConn players on this list. I guess that speaks to the depth of the teams over the years, the great team play, and Geno's recruitment to get stars who play within the team context.

For some reason I am remembering Michael Jordan's days with the Bulls, and how they never won a championship until that series with the Lakers in which Jordan would drive, draw the double-team, then pass to John Paxson who would then bury the open jumper.

Jordan would score 63 against the Celtics and the Bulls would lose, he would score in the 20s and the Bulls would win.

Obviously, some of those names on the list came from very successful teams (Miller at USC, Holdsclaw at UTenn), those seem to be in the minority however.
