UConn recruit Breanna Stewart named Gatorade Player of the Year
Another day and another national high school player of the year award for UConn incoming freshman Breanna Stewart.
Stewart received the Gatorade National Player of the Year award in a ceremony at Cicero-North Syracuse, N.Y. High.
The 6-foot-4 Stewart adds the Gatorade honor to the WBCA, Naismith and McDonald's national player of the year awards she has received received.
She joins current Husky Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and former UConn stars Maya Moore, Tina Charles, Ann Strother and Tamika Williams as winners of the Gatorade award. Stewart is now a finalist for the Gatorade Female Athlete of the Year award which will be announced in July.
Stewart is averaging 25.7 points, 13.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 3.2 steals and 3.5 blocks per game heading into Friday's New York AA semifinal against Ossining.
