Another national honor for UConn recruiting target

Add the Parade Magazine national player of the year award to the growing list of honors won by UConn recruiting target A'ja Wilson.

The 6-foot-4 Wilson has already been named the WBCA and Naismith national player of the year after averaging 34.4 points, 14.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 3 steals and 5.1 blocked shots per game to lead Heathwood Hall Episcopal School of Columbia, S.C. to the South Carolina Independent School Association Class AAA title.

Wilson averaged 34 points, 15.7 rebounds and 8 blocks in three state tournament games and hit a 3-pointer at the end of regulation to send the state title game against Northwood into overtime. Wilson finished with 37 points, 14 rebounds and eight blocks in the 66-58 win. Wilson had seven 40-point games including a season-high total of 56 against St. Joseph Central. She had two triple-doubles as a senior and five games with at least 30 points and 20 rebounds.

Wilson has narrowed her list to UConn, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee but has not set a date for announcing her college decision.

Wilson was joined on the 20-member Parade All-American squad by RHAM senior Sarah Veilleux.
