Moore, Auriemma honored again
Maya Moore beat out perhaps the toughest field of candidates in the conference history to repeat as the Big East's Player of the Year.
Moore joins former UConn stars Diana Taurasi, Rebecca Lobo and Kerry Bascom and ex-Villanova great Shelly Pennefather to win the award more than once (Bascom and Pennefather were three-time winners).
Moore beat out Louisville's Angel McCoughtry, who is likely to be the No. 1 overall pick in April's WNBA draft, and teammate Renee Montgomery to earn the conference's top honor for the second straight year.
UConn coach Geno Auriemma was named the Big East Coach of the Year for an eighth time, sharing the honor with Villanova's Harry Perretta. Former Trinity Catholic of Stamford star Da'Shena Stevens earned Big East Freshman of the Year honors, becoming the first St. John's player to receive a postseason Big East award since Sherri Brown was named the sportsmanship winner in 2004. Cincinnati's Jill Stephens was named the Big East Scholar-Athlete.
